The company’s history includes a strategic merger in 2012 with Chicago-based Sage partner Xkzero, which significantly expanded its scale and development capabilities. This followed a turbulent period where the firm was serially acquired by several larger reseller groups before re-emerging as an independent entity following the bankruptcy of a parent company. The company built a substantial client base by specializing in established products like Sage 100 and later adapting to market shifts by focusing on the cloud-based Sage Intacct platform.

In April 2024, private equity firm Pfingsten initiated a transaction that brought both MicroAccounting and Rand Group, another prominent value-added reseller with practices in Microsoft and NetSuite, under a new platform called AscendERP Solutions. The deal is structured as a strategic acquisition by the private equity-backed platform to create a diversified technology services provider, rather than a direct merger of the two VARs. This transaction positions MicroAccounting as the formal Sage division within the larger organization. A phased rebranding is underway, with the firm initially operating as “MicroAccounting, a Rand Group Company” before an eventual transition to the Rand Group brand. The company has stated that the existing MicroAccounting team will remain in place to ensure service continuity for its Sage clients, who will now have access to Rand Group’s broader portfolio of services, including capabilities in AI and process automation.
