Microsoft to End New Office Features on Windows 10

Microsoft has indicated that it will stop the rollout of new features for its Microsoft 365 apps on the Windows 10 operating system starting in 2026. This change will require users to upgrade to Windows 11 to access the latest application improvements. According to the company’s updated support documents, the cessation of new features will begin in August 2026 for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers. For business customers, the end of new features is scheduled for October 2026 for those on the Monthly Enterprise Channel and January 2027 for users on the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel.

While new feature development will halt, Microsoft has stated it will continue to provide security updates for Office applications running on Windows 10 until October 2028. This move follows an earlier decision to extend security support but did not previously detail the end of feature updates. The broader context for this decision is the official end-of-life for Windows 10, set for October 14, 2025. This policy appears to be a measure to encourage migration to Windows 11, which, according to data from StatCounter, has recently surpassed Windows 10 in market share.
